UK, Liverpool, 17th November 2013

The RoadPeace NW Group is commemorating the World Day in Liverpool, as they have done for many years.

Pauline Fielding, the chair of the group, writes:

“We start at the memorial to road crash victims in St John’s Gardens at the back of St George’s hall in Liverpool. I will introduce the event and there will be speeches from the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Merseyside police and a RP member. There will be a Minutes’ silence to remember those killed and injured on our roads and 5 doves will be released in their memory.

Following this we will go into St. George’s Hall for light refreshments and the opportunity for us to talk to each other. Then we will go to the Concert Room for a formal service of remembrance. The Concert Room is a beautiful place where Charles Dickens performed his “Penny Readings”.

During the service families and friends are invited to bring forward the oak leaves bearing the names of those killed on our roads and these will be read out after tea lights have been placed on the oak leaves. The St Nicholas Singers will perform several pieces including Song For Athene and there will be pieces from the choir of St. Chad’s School in Runcorn, where one of our members, is a teacher.
