The ride of silence is a free investment path that you make in cities around the world to remind cyclists killed or injured on the roads asking its participants to

1) REMAIN SILENT WHILE RIDING
2) does not go faster than 10 kmh
3) wear a helmet
4) follow the rules of the road

Usually the “Ride of Silence” takes place on the 3rd of May marcoledì. But for this year, its first edition time in Metroplitano City of Cagliari, will be held Sunday, November 20 as Tribute Ride for two cyclists involved in two separate incidents in the Cagliari (One of which fatal and other serious) on 23 October and coinciding with the “International Day of Remembrance of Road Victims”. This year a special day because the City of Cagliari has decided to dedicate a square “Piazza Road Victims” (Via Lyon, Cagliari) after a religious Mass with the Italian Association of Road Victims Families (AIFVS). Follow after the Mass and dedication of a candlelight vigil at the foot.

The Ride of Silence is intended to inform drivers, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to use public roads. The ride also honors those who were killed or injured. an international annual bike ride to commemorate the cyclists killed or injured while driving on public roads. It helps to raise awareness among drivers about the dangers they pose to cyclists.

The first Ride of Silence was organized by Chris Phelan and it was held in Dallas, Texas in 2003. Many participants found the experience to be very moving. Although it was conceived as an event to be carried out once only, it has been held annually since then. Cyclists in cities around the world have joined this movement. And ‘it is grown each year 2004 through 2012, with 50, 120, 223, 272, 296, 283, 316, 321 and 319 participating cities.

In 2013, the tenth anniversary, there were 372 locations around the world confirmed for the Ride of Silence May 18, in 26 countries, on all seven continents, including Antarctica.

The Ride of Silence takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of May. The League of American Bicyclists is promoting this side-by-side event with the National Bike Month and Bike-to-Work Day, held on the 3rd Friday of May.
