REMEMBRANCE OF TRAFFIC VICTIMS 2013

The Women’s Foundation for the Transport Sector-Uganda commemorated the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Jinja, Uganda, on 21st and 22nd November 2013.

On 21st November, we held a stakeholders dialogue at Jinja District Council Hall. The chief guest was the regional traffic officer KIIRA Region. The event was an opportunity for the various stakeholders to discuss and propose solutions to the many traffic crashes in Uganda, which claim hundreds of Ugandan lives.

We held media campaigns to sensitize the public about road danger.

On 22nd November, we held a multi-faith candlelight prayer at Jinja Refferal Hospital in remembrance of all those who have died in road crashes.

We donated mattresses to the Accident and Emergency Ward of that hospital, which admits the biggest number of victims in the region.

At the same venue, a presentation was given by the Regional traffic officer to create public awareness about the causes and consequences of road crashes. A survivor shared his testimony with the people present.
