Also for this year’s World Day we are planning many initiatives all over the Country.
As a joint initiative, we will create a widespread commemoration of the many victims killed on the roads of our country: on November 18, victims will be remembered in the place where they lost their lives, through the display of a poster with their photo and story, and the lighting of a candle.
The places for commemoration were chosen by AIFVS branch offices along with victim families.
An overview of the initiative – which will concern about 500 victims of road crashes that occurred all over the 20 Italian regions – will be available through a Google Map on the AIFVS website (www.vittimestrada.org). Moreover, since many victims’ story is also on the same website, a link in each victim’s tab will make the same story easy to be found.
(The Google Map is currently under construction, an example of a preview can be seen at this link:http://batchgeo.com/map/48069023ce1f2cd7f503c8bf78f8b702

“Remember for changing”: around 500 victims, killed , throughout all 20 regions of Italy, will be remembered in the place where they lost their lives with a poster about the victims and a lit candle. A Google Map showing the places and the victims’ story will be available on the AIFVS website – http://www.vittimestrada.org/
Other initiatives (for more info, please visitwww.vittimestrada.org/articles.php?lng=it&pg=17859)
“Right of way to life!”: The players of the 40 teams playing in the Volleyball Men’s “A League” and Basketball Men’s “Legadue” will carry on the field a banner dedicated to the World Day of Remembrance, with the slogan “Right of way to life!” and wear AIFVS T-shirts. In plants the speaker will read a message of awareness.
Illumination of monuments: many monument will be illuminated in bigger and smaller Italian towns (e.g., Ferrara, Pescara, Lagosanto), symbolizing the commitment of bringing to light a problem which has, for a too long time, been neglected.
Religious events: In the 26,000 Italian Catholic parishes will be read a prayer for the World Day of Remembrance, included in the Sunday Mass liturgical leaflet, distributed by the Italian Episcopal Conference. Many celebrations dedicated to road traffic victims will be held all over Italy.
“Virtual cemeteries”: the traditional “Crosses exposition”, which creates the effect of a cemetery on a public square and invites pedestrians to think about the dramatic consequences of a road crash, will be exposed in Frosinone, Pavia and Salerno.
Marches for road victims: many marches will be organized all over Italy, including a silent march (Rome, Verano Monumental Cemetery), a march of protest with launch of balloons (Cagliari) and a march to light candles (Pistoia, Quartara).
“Square of Road Angels”: a square dedicated to road victims will be officially inaugurated in Satriano di Lucania (Potenza).
Theatre plays: two dramas on the subject will be played on the WDR. One is focussed on the consequences of a road crash (“Collected on the road”, Theatre of Dalmine), the other on creating awareness (“Don’t run, come running!” (Auditorium Bordignon, Castelfranco Veneto)
Conferences: many meetings have been organized in order to talk about the consequences of a road crash (among them “Life counts more: public debate to enforce memory and commitment”, Pistoia; the conference “Violent deaths and road victims: the loss trauma”, Ferrara) and the issues of prevention (“Health, prevention, lawfulness”, Alessandria; “No more flowers on the asphalt”, Bergamo; “Road crashes in Basilicata”, Potenza).
