Greece, Crete, 17th and 18th November 2013
The Municipality of Platanias and the Association for Aid and Solidarity of Road Accident Victims “St Christopher” have launched a national Creative Multimedia Student Competition on Road Safety and will hold an award ceremony for participants on 18th November. Other events, on 17th November, are a mass, a procession with vintage cars and cyclists and lighting of candles in memory of road crash victims.

SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2013
8:00am: Holy Mass performed by the Metropolitan of Kissamos- Selino, Mr Amfilohios , in the chapel of St Christopher in the “Christos Polendas” Park (located in Neratzia near Voukolies of the Municipality of Platanias) in memory of Traffic accident victims.
10:00am: Raising of flags of the UN, the European Community at the UN Monument (the Tree of Nations)
Salutations and speeches on World Day for Victims of Traffic Accidents.
10:30am: Commencing of procession of vintage cars (Club of Vintage Cars of Hania- “SIPAK”) and of a cycling route in memory of traffic accident victims. There will be a participation of young cyclists, students of the Perivolia Primary School under the auspices of the Director for Primary Education of Hania.
The procession starts at the Park and finishes at the Platanias Town Hall in Gerani.
12:00am: Awarding of honorary Participation Certificates to all who took part by the Mayor of Platanias, Mr. Malandrakis and the President of the Association for Assistance and Solidarity for Traffic Accident Victims, Mr. Polendas, at the Town Hall in Gerani.
18:00: Speech on the meaning of UN World Day for Traffic Accidents Victims at the Army Officers’ Club ( 64 Andreas Papandreou, Hania)
20:00: Procession from the Club to “Peace and Friendship” Park . Lighting of candles in memory of traffic accident victims.
MONDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2013
8:30am: Transportation of High School students from the High Schools of the Platanias Municipality to the Traffic Accident Park “Christos Polendas”
9:30am: Holy Mass, in blessing of all students, performed by the Metropolitan of Kissamos- Selino, Mr Amfilohios , in the chapel of St Christopher in the “Christos Polendas” Park.
10:30am: Transportation to the Orthodox Academy of Crete in Kolymbari
11:00am: Salutations
11:30am: Announcement and awarding of the winners of the 1stNational Road Safety Competition – show of the winning participations.
12:00: Awarding of people who worked for and helped in the prevention of traffic accidents in the 2012- 2013 period.
All the activities of the two-day event are supported by the Orthodox Academy of Crete and the Company of Bus Transport of Hania- Rethymno.
