World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR)

“The Department of Transit of the State of Pará (DETRAN/PA)“

The Department of Transit of the State of Pará (DETRAN/PA), in association with the Center of Hematology and Hemotherapy of Pará (HEMOPA) and several organized groups, promote in the period of 07 until 19 November of 2016, as part of The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR), the campaign for blood donation.
Because most of the victims injured in traffic require transfusion, the campaign aims to ensure the stock of blood banks, since demand is very high.

According to the Coordinator of Planning of DETRAN/PA, in 2015, in the metropolitan area of Belém, there were 14.020 accidents (pedestrian accidents, collisions, collisions with fixed objects and falls), involving 5,687 injured.
According to the Metropolitan Hospital of Urgency and Emergency, most of the injured in traffic crashes need blood transfusion.

The DETRAN/PA promotes educational activities during the year with the theme “Peace in Traffic”. These activities are carried out systematically in schools, businesses and roads in the capital and in towns in the heartland of Pará.
The director general of the institution, Andrea Hass, has prioritized investments in the area, in order to educate the citizen.
The director points out that traffic is a collective space formed by people: “To share a collective space it is necessary for individuals, through their actions, to transform the way into a democratic space of conviviality.”
