Brahma Kumaris will hold ‘special reflective and meditative evenings’ on World Day on five continents, and will dedicate the World Meditation Hour to road traffic victims on 18.11.2012.

Dear Friend,
Greetings of peace from the Brahma Kumaris
This is to share that the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University (BKWSU) is hosting events at various locations worldwide in observance of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. These are in the form of a special reflective and meditative evening dedicated to road traffic victims.
At this event, participants will listen to life-changing stories of individuals with first-hand experiences, as well as people dedicated to making a difference on the issue of road safety. Everyone will be encouraged to contribute their thoughts of peace and good wishes, as well as be inspired to practice appropriate road behaviours and to follow rules of the road. There will also be an extended period of meditation in which the practice of ‘traffic control’ of the mind will be experimented.
The Brahma Kumaris is a non-governmental organization in general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. In support of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020), the Brahma Kumaris’ initiative ‘Safety through Spiritual Life-Skills’ is aimed at enhancing awareness and abilities of individuals in practicing appropriate road behaviour.
One of the activities of the initiative is the practice of ‘traffic control’ of the mind. The mind is the field of thoughts and the energy of thoughts influences our attitude, behaviour, and actions. In the words of Dadi Janki, the Administrative Head of the Brahma Kumaris: “Becoming peaceful means seizing the reins of the out-of-control mind and bringing the runaway thoughts to a halt. Once we have the mind’s attention, we can begin to coax it to take us into silence, a true silence; not the place without sound, but the place in which we experience a deep sense of peace and a pervasive awareness of our own well-being and the well-being of others.’
Thoughts of peace are perhaps, the best medium to carry our compassion to the victims and survivors of road traffic accidents, and also their bereaved families.
November 18 is the third Sunday of the month and over the years the Brahma Kumaris have been dedicating the third Sunday of every month to World Meditation Hour – an hour dedicated to world peace. On 18th November 2012, this hour has been earmarked for special meditation for victims and survivors of road crashes.
Thus, Brahma Kumaris will be observing WDR 2012 in two ways:
