‘Light of Hope’ Initiative

This initiative involves the burning of a light (candle or other light, even switching on of cell-phones or torches) and the illumination of houses, porches and civic buildings – in memory of a road victim and all road victims worldwide – suggested from 6pm to 12 midnight, but especially between 6-8pm.

Launched on World Day 2007, the initiative was proposed by the French road victim organization Esperanza, who achieved both the illumination of houses, gardens, balconies and public buildings in their city – Port-Saint-Louis du Rhone and organized a symbolic transfer of light, recorded on video, from Europe (Italy) to America (Mexico).

Their report from 2007 is a splendid example of what can be achieved.

Since then, this Initiative has represented an important World Day event in many countries.

In Italy, thanks to the efforts of road victim NGO AIFVS, every year many civic buildings are illuminated, including the Capitol in Rome.
