Associazione Italiana Familiari e Vittime della Strada AIFVS) will hold two conferences in the Senate on 9 and 10 November, to highlight the issue of road deaths on the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy (1861-2011) and to draw attention of politicians and media to the forthcoming World Day of Remembrance.

AIFVS has also ensured that the following will take place:

• during the Day of Remembrance, before all Italian Major League basketball and volleyball matches, players will enter the arena with T-shirts and banners relating to road victims.
• Masses in memory of road victims will be held in churches throughout Italy
• A walk in the main cemetery of Rome – the Verano – to lay flowers on the graves of road victims
• A message from the Pope to road victims worldwide
• Illumination of monuments in many cities – to draw attention to a neglected problem, as part of the Global Light of Hope Initiative.
