“World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims”

THE ABILITY PEOPLE & Indian Federation of Road Safety

“ARRIVE ALIVE”

Road Safety week Month for Life….
“SAFETY IS NOT JUST A SLOGAN, IT’S A WAY OF LIFE!”
Nearly every day, a serious road traffic crash somewhere in and around Visakhapatnam makes newspaper headlines. For every such news event, many other road traffic crashes – both fatal and non-fatal – go unreported because they have become such “routine” events. From 1st January 2015 onwards more than 489 people lost their lives in Visakhapatnam’s road and few of hundreds are disabled for life. The devastation that these incidents wreak on victims, their families, friends and communities is incalculable.

Our youths are India’s workhorse. For a strong economy, India cannot afford to lose her youths in accidental deaths. It is alarming to learn that 59% are youths (18-45 years) among the unnatural deaths, total 4.5 lakh accidental deaths in 2014 in India (an increase of 13% over the year 2013).

We stand at an overall 64% death rate compared against total injured victims by unnatural accidents. – (Source: NCRB, 2014). It is indeed disturbing to see the increasing death rate trend year-on-year. We Indians are the source of this problem and the onus of solving it lies with us only. In fact, citizens are entitled to demand protection of their life from accidents as a human right.

In this connection, The Ability People organising the Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, 15th Nov 2015. This is the first of its kind event organised in Andhra Pradesh. We are planning to invite few victims of road traffic crashes and their families to share with the audience (mostly School and College students).
Life is 10% what happens to you And 90% how you react to it!
