Georgia, Tbilisi, Meeting, Gathering, Education, Conference, November 2012

In November, 2012 special commemorative meetings were held with students of different Universities (Free University and Agrarian University) in order to join the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) world events.

The commemorative events/public lectures were organized in the framework of the public-education campaign – “Don’t Drink and Drive!” which is initiated and conducted by the “Georgian Alliance for Safe Roads”. The donors of the Campaign are: Georgian Brewery Company “Natakhtari”, Insurance Company “GPI Holding” and the U.S. Embassy in Georgia.

About 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. Between 20 to 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury. Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death among young people, aged 15–29 years. Driver error, distraction, intoxication, and other human factors contribute wholly or partly to about 93% of all car crashes.

That’s why since 2005 (after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution welcoming the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims) the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is held on the third Sunday of November each year. It is a day to remember those who died or were injured from road crashes and the plight of their loved ones who must cope with the consequences of their deaths or injuries.
