Croatia, Gatherings, Workshops, Education, November 2012

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2012 in the Republic of Croatia – Besides the symbolic marking of the World Day of Remembrance, in the eve of the WDR our association will implement a series of road safety activities, such as education, prevention, and professional meetings.

Activities for the WDR:

1.  In the most frequented place of the downtown of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia will be placed a huge LCD screen on which three days continuously will be running video (movie) warnings and images of road crashes. Logo of our organization and FEVR logo with messages warning on dangerous driving behaviour and marking the World Day of Remembrance will also be exposed. It is also planned to hold a press conference which beside our association members will be attended by the police, ambulance, fire brigade, Croatian Auto Club (HAK) and city representatives as well as institutions working on road safety.

2. The same activities will be implemented in the city of Rijeka (one of the largest Croatian cities situated on the Adriatic coast).

3. In city of Pula which is the hometown of our association, the WDR will be marked by lighting 415 candles at the cemetery, one for each person killed last year in road crashes in the Republic of Croatia. Candles will be placed in the shape of a heart which is also the logo of our association. There will be a commemorative speech followed by two Brahms rhapsodies played on the trumpet.

On 5 November we had an interview on the local radio, and on the eve of the WDR we will issue a press release with the reports on the total number of victims of road crashes in Croatia in 20 years of its independence.

In the show window of the club of pensioners, situated in the center of the city of Pula, will be placed large drawings of Pula Secondary School students on the topic of road danger and warning messages to drivers. Logos of our association and FEVR will also be displayed.

4. In Koprivnički Ivanec, situated in North Croatia, will be held a church memorial service for all road crash victims. The service will be followed by lighting candles placed in the shape of a heart, at the local cemetery. Representatives of the police, ambulance, fire brigade, as well as local authorities will attend.
