The ALINAGNON NGO IN BENIN

Every year, The Alinagnon NGO, a major road safety partner in Benin, takes part in major world events.

To commemorate the World Day of Remembrance in 2012 under the theme “The Light of Hope”, the following events aim to provide moral and practical support to road victims and their families and to trigger action among government officials.

• On 17 November – Organisation of a gathering and parade at Cotonou involving 200 members of Alinagnon who will carry a light dedicated to road victims and their families as well as banners with road safety messages.
• On 18 November – organisation of a parade with over 300 young members from the Cotonou Road Safety Clubs  together with other Road Safety  NGOS and official stakeholders .  This parade will aim to raise awareness of the impact of road crashes and how to behave on the road with talks and distribution of flyers. This event will also include:
  • A public forum with many speakers  who will deliver speeches on road safety themes in front of a crowd of over 1000 participants to gather at the crossroads ‘La Vie’ in Cotonou.
  • The laying of a flower wreath in memory of road victims
  • A minute of silence
  • The singing of the national hymn by 1000 people in presence of government officials
  • The provision of practical help as a present to five road victim families to show public support
  • The delivery of three specific messages addressed to government officials so they take into account the situation of road victims and their families in their decision making.
